Thomas Baird IV, a third-generation employee at his family business Conco Cos., died Oct. 1. He was 48.

Baird had leukemia, according to his obituary posted at GormanScharpf.com.

Conco's vice president of marketing, Baird was an employee at the company for nearly 25 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Founded in 1947, Conco supplies concrete materials, mines quarries and operates a fleet of bulk tankers and hauling equipment, according to its website.

"Tom was a tremendous family man, a dedicated leader in our business and industry, and a true servant in our community," Conco officials said yesterday in a Facebook post.

Chris Upp, vice president and general manager for Conco, said discussions have not yet been held on finding Baird's successor, "as we are still grieving his loss."

Beyond his role at Conco, Baird was active in the community with organizations including YMCA Camp Wakonda, Greene County Planning and Zoning, and the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District, according to his obituary. He also was a member of the Springfield Contractors Association, Concrete Promotional Council of the Ozarks and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

Services for Baird are scheduled 2 p.m. tomorrow at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, followed by a private family burial, according to his obituary.
