MaMa Jean’s relocates flagship store

MaMa Jean’s Natural Foods Market LLC’s flagship store is in larger space after relocating this month to Sunshine Corners.

The store moved less than a mile to 228 W. Sunshine St., where it opened Dec. 26, according to a company Facebook post. It relocated from 1727 S. Campbell Ave., where MaMa Jean’s first opened in 2002. The Campbell Avenue store closed Dec. 12 to prepare for the relocation.

Company officials were unavailable for comment by deadline.

Co-owner Susie Farbin announced the planned move in March, noting the company signed a lease for undisclosed terms to occupy 14,400 square feet in the shopping center across the street from Bass Pro Shops, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. She estimated the new store investment at roughly $300,000.

Farbin has said the Campbell Avenue store, spanning 11,000 square feet, was a difficult site for truck deliveries and at capacity for parking.

The move follows the March closure of MJ’s Market and Deli, 900 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. 140, in Battlefield Market Place. Farbin previously told SBJ that MJ’s Market is moving into the new store in Sunshine Corners to serve as its deli operation. A store representative said the deli is scheduled to open in January.

MaMa Jean’s operates two additional Queen City stores: 1110 E. Republic Road and 3530 E. Sunshine St. The company began offering online grocery shopping in January, generating nearly 9% of roughly $1.7 million in combined store sales in April during the city’s stay-at-home order, according to past reporting. Store officials say curbside service added another $292,000 in sales May-October.
