Senate poised to curb Trump's war authority on Iran

The Senate today is expected to pass a bipartisan measure that would rein in President Donald Trump's ability to use military action against Iran.

The resolution, which is opposed by Trump and Republican leaders, would require congressional approval for war action against Iran.

"While the president does and must always have the ability to defend the United States from imminent attack, the executive power to initiate war stops there," said Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Virginia. "An offensive war requires a congressional debate and vote. This should not be a controversial proposition."
